According to PC Perspective, who have published a belated write up from NVIDIA’s GPU Technology Conference, there will be a second version of the Oculus Rift Dev Kit later this year which will incorporate new features followed by a planned consumer launch in Q3 2014.
The presentation also included a slide which projected possible gaming partnerships including Half Life, Minecraft and Skyrim, all games which rank highly on most potential Oculus owners’ wish lists.
Sales figures of 500,000 are projected for a Q3 2014 launch with a projected turnover of $125, which suggests a release price of $250. A mock up of the consumer version shows an angular, retro style headset which would make Rift players appear somewhat Cylon like. This concept art is strikingly different from what has previously appeared in Oculus’ promotional material. It’s not clear if the current art predates this newly publicised concept work.
